What is Lumenis Lightsheer XC Handpiece?

The Lumenis Lightsheer XC handpiece is a diode laser system approved by the FDA for removal of unwanted hair in small and large body areas requiring higher fluence levels. Compared to the Lumenis Lightsheer HS and ET models, this handpiece provides the most rapid cover rate and is compatible for all skin types and colors.

How does Lumenis Lightsheer XC Work?  

The Lumenis Lightsheer XC handpiece produces a highly concentrated beam of light that targets the bulb of the hair follicle. The hair bulb is the place where living cells grow and multiply to build the hair shaft while the hair follicle anchors the bulb. By focusing laser energy into these structures, heat builds up and damages the hair bulb. Lumenis Lightsheer XC’s 12 mm square sapphire lens focuses the laser beam and compresses the skin in order to bring hair follicles closer to the light energy. In addition, the ChillTip allows contact-cooling of the upper layer of the skin before, during and after each pulse cycle in order to prevent burn injuries. With additional treatments, more hair bulbs get destroyed leaving the area smoother and completely free from unwanted hair.

To achieve optimal results, it is recommended that patients undergo 6 treatment sessions because not all hair follicles are in the same growth and development stage. The Lumenis Lightsheer XC works best on hair follicles in the anagen phase (growth stage) since they contain fully developed hair bulbs.
